Jesus came to Nazareth where he had been reared. As he always did on the Sabbath, he went to the meeting place. When he stood up to read, he was handed the scroll of the prophet Isaiah. Unrolling the scroll, he found the place where it was written,

God's Spirit is on me;

he's chosen me to preach the Message of good news to the poor,

Sent me to announce pardon to prisoners and

recovery of sight to the blind,

To set the burdened and battered free,

to announce, "This is God's year to act!"

He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the assistant, and sat down. Every eye in the place was on him, intent. Then he started in, "You've just heard Scripture make history. It came true just now in this place." Luke 4:16-21

I read this last night. I was thinking about how Jesus came to save us all because guaranteed we all fall into one or more of these categories. The poor...those who are starving or just go to bed hungry. Those who live completely stressed out because they don't know where the next dollar will come from. The poor emotionally, those who never learned what true love is, those who feel grumpy all the time or suffer from depression, who lack friendship or feel uncared for...He has come to show you how it feels to be really loved, unconditionally. He has come to fill the empty places in your cracked and broken spirit. The imprisoned, physically, emotionally, spiritually. I have been a prisoner to my own sin and anxiety...many are prisoners of addiction or are physically locked behind bars, whether justly or unjustly...Jesus has come to set us free with His truth and His love. The blind...those who physically can't see...or those that can't see the good in their life, who can't imagine being thankful. Those who, by their own situations or experiences,
are blinded to the truth of the existence of God and cannot accept His gift of love and salvation...Jesus has come to give sight to those that can't see. The burdened...many bear the pressure of stress, whatever form it takes, they try to carry it alone and crumble under it's weight. Jesus has come to relieve you of your burden and assure you that you do not journey alone. The battered...some are battered physically or verbally while even more just feel beat up by life in general. They feel thay can't ever get a break, that good news will never come. There is Good News..."This is God's year to act! You've just heard Scripture make history. It came true just now in this place."
