Our friend Katarina gave us this garden gnome as a housewarming gift. She told us this is a traditional Czech garden decoration...my other czech friends have a different idea as to what this is, but we are happy with it nonetheless...we have always wanted our very own garden gnome...and here we are 7000 miles from our homeland with our new friend..who says dreams don't come true?

One of the best things about living in the Czech republic is the friendships we have made in only 4 short months. The top picture is with my friend and neighbor Martina, we are just about to go out for a girl's day. And the second pic is of me and Roxie with our friend Katarina who lives in Brno. We have been friends with Katarina for almost three years. On this day she was visiting relatives here and came for a visit as we had not seen her in over a year. She brought usa most unique gift...see post above
Navstevy-visitors
Last week our niece, Mallory, and her friend, Brittany, came to Ceske Budejovice to visit us. They had just finished a month in Paris learning french and followed that up with a european tour. They had been to Rome, and Vienna and were stopping by us on their way to Prague. We had a couple of days with them to see the sights, but after the other cities they had been in and the sights they had seen it seemed like more fun to just hang out and experience everyday life in CZ. So we took them to our friends' place to play cards, we took them to our favorite restaurant and tea house and we took them on a tour of the nuclear reactor...who could ask for more?
The stripes on the tree trunks mark out paths that lead all over the Czech republic. Also posted are signs that are color coded to the stripes on the trees. For instance, if you wanted to go from Hluboka nad vltavou (our home) to Ceske Vrbne you would follow the red striped trees, if you wanted to go to Trebon (where they have the best zmrzlina (ice cream)) you would follow green striped trees...fun, huh?
