Mala Fatra s Potiskovymi...The Mala Fatra mountains with the Potiska family
While we were in Slovakia so were our friends, Milos and Ana. They were there visiting her family. She was born in Slovakia in a village called Terchova at the foot of the lower Tatras. So after Campfest was over we met up with them at Ana's brother Adam's cottage. He was super nice, but only spoke Slovak, which is very similar but different enough to keep me on my toes. Fortunately, Slovaks understand Czech...so that worked to my advantage. Ana had planned for us an all day hike in the Mala Fatra mountains. She had prepared snacks for us and we all set off for a day of beautiful scenery and fresh air. We hiked together for 6 hours and the girls did so well. At one point we were rock climbing on slippery, muddy cliffs, due to the rain that had steadily poured the day before (see Dampfest below). I was tobally freaking out at this point as I am afraid of heights and watching my children tumble to their deaths. But in typical Czech/Slovak fashion, Ana told me to stop being silly and led my youngest, Roxie, off to the "Cliffs of Unbelievable Horror" so that I could navigate my way through them alone. At one point the rocks were so slippery that I could only cross by hanging from tree branches. I had to totally trust that Ana was taking care of Roxie and getting her through this mess. Rebekah was with Adam and told me later that he taught her how to jump from rock to rock. WHAT??? I am so glad that we are all alive...and we had a wonderful time with our dear, sweet Czech/Slovak family.
