A Walk through our Town (part 4 of 4)

This is our town's ice-skating rink. Roxie learned to ice skate here with her kindergarden class. I reallly like the name (better if it was spelled "Cooky)
Strange ... I don't usually feel like "going active" after eating at McDonalds.

Our town's baseball fields. Baseball is very rare here. Apparently in the mid-1990's an American came to Hluboka and introduced baseball. It really caught on and this is now one of the few towns in the Czech Republic with a baseball team. The man who brought it here is a bit of a local legend. He left some of his english books with one of our friends, who gave them to us so we could have some new reading materials. It is strange to ride past here in the summer and see baseball being played, with a mixture of Czech and English baseball terms.

One of the sponsors of the baseball fields is the Temelin nuclear power plant. The plant is about a ten minute drive from our house, and is very controversial across the border in Austria. They have a very busy public-relations department trying to keep up their image as a good member of the community. Their monthly magazine is quite inadvertently hilarious.

I ran out of batteries here, about half way to the bike shop. I am now a few kilometers out of town and this is a local pond where I often see an older man sitting here fishing. He comes on his old bike and brings along a folding chair. It was too cold this day for him to be there, but usually he is there looking very content.
