1st day of school 2008
Today was another milestone. This starts their third year in the Czech school system, Rebekah's first year as a middle-schooler and another year of answered prayer. We were all nervous as Rebekah went to school today as not only was it her first day in the Middle School but as she skipped a grade this was her first time with this new class, plus the pressure of missing a year's worth of schoolwork. She was wondering (as were we all) how she would be received as she entered the classroom. You see, all kids stay together from kindergarten on. These kids have already been together for 5 years. Rebekah is the newcomer. Fortunately, she has already made quite a reputation for herself as the zany American. We prayed and prayed that she would feel God's presence with her and that He would pave the way for friendships for her in this class. As soon as she entered the room a boy shouted, "Cool! Rebekah's in our class!" What a great way to be welcomed. And she said that she spent the morning having fun with everyone as they chatted and discussed new nicknames they would have for the year. Her homeroom teacher is very kind and she will meet all of her other teachers on Thursday, many of whom are already Aunties as they have been students of mine here at home or attend our Biblestudy. After school we went to the pool and two classmates of Rebekah's came running up to greet her and asked her to hang out with them. She played with them in the pool for the rest of the afternoon and said that she had such a good time...she had a really big smile on her face. Thanks to our God, our Father who cares so much for His children...
