cultivating virtue
compassion

Time to exercise new muscles. Studying compassion is not enough. We are compelled to use what we have learned. Put words into action. For those of us who have everything we need and most of what we want, what sacrifice can be made for those a world away who have lost everything they cared about, dreamed about and worked for? Today, as a family we will sacrifice:

TIME...
to pray for the people of Port-au-Prince, Haiti...for those who have lost family and friends, for those who have been injured and for those who have lost everything they had.

MONEY...
to give to a charity like World Vision in order to ease someone's burden in a small way. If we all gave a small amount imagine how many burdens could be eased.

EFFORT...
I am thinking that it is not a half bad idea to organize some Haiti fundraiser within the English department at school. I am going to propose the idea today. I will keep you posted.
