The people and country of Haiti are going to need help for a long time. Yesterday, we were talking about what our responsibilities were to those in need. Finding this verse from the Bible which makes it quite clear, if we have the means to help it is our responsibility. We set up a "Haiti fund" jar in our kitchen. In it will go money that we save over the course of the month. I am putting in the money I earn from my private student, the girls will do extra chores each week to earn money for the fund. Any change we accrue will also go in there. What we have committed to do as a family is keep this jar going for the whole year. The problems in Haiti are going to take years and lots of money to fix. We are taking this on as our responsibility to help this year. At the end of every month we will count our money and send it to World Vision earmarked for Haiti relief. As a way of holding me accountable (read "responsible"), I will post each month how much we have collected. Would anyone care to match our donations?
