Prvni Den Ve skole...The First Day Of School

Here at the school in Hluboka the first day of school is a huge deal. It is more of a celebration really, especially for thr outgoing ninth graders and the incoming first graders (like Roxie) who are paired up for the celebration. The ninth graders and first graders march in together and then the principal (reditel) and mayor (starosta) give speeches, as do the first grade teachers. Here I have pictured the principal, Roxie's teacher (who is a sweetie and I am so glad that she is her teacher) and the mayor wearing the Cone of Confusion, which I shall tell you about in a later blog.
