Outside my window...sunshine with a huge thunderstorm off in the distance. The past few days, nay, week or so, has brought torrential downpours complete with thunder and lightning that departs as quickly as it arrives leaving you drenched and surprised.
From the kitchen...Danny will be making Herren Tort (Lord's Cake) today so we can butter up the office ladies at the new school. It is this amazing cake made with cocoa and almonds, then spread with cranberries and whipped cream. Really amazing.
I am wearing...Ok..I admit it...I am wearing a robe...sorry.
I am thankful for...our current collection of miracles (see my posts on Sunday and Tuesday)
A thought I am pondering...
In the womb, that heel, Jacob, got the best of his brother.
When he grew up, he tried to get the best of God.
But God would not be bested.
God bested him.
Brought to his knees,
Jacob wept and prayed.
God found him at Bethel.
That's where he spoke with him.
God is God-of-the-Angel-Armies,
God-Revealed, God-Known.
Hosea 12:3-5
God has bested me. When I get too proud and haughty, when I think I know what is capital for myself and for my family in our lives He surpasses it all. What is preferred, desirable, golden...He one ups everything. When I go my own way, He defeats me to save me. Can you picture it?
I'm going...shopping today for poster board and fabric paint.
I am reading...'Salem's Lot by Stephen King...one of my favourite authors. Ever.
I am hearing...snoring coming from both bedrooms. It is physically impossible for me to sleep in past 8 am. This poses no problem for other members of my family.
Around the house...I am already in full idea spawning mode. My mind is spinning and I am constantly writing ideas down for the new school year.
I am hoping...I can get my classroom ready, lesson plans made, games, posters, projects constructed and still force myself to relax the last four weeks of summer. Once I get ants in my pants they are hard to extricate.
A few plans for the rest of the week: begin making things for my classroom, a date with Danny to see "Inception", time with friends on Friday, deliver the girls' applications to their new school (along with a cake that Danny is making).
A picture thought I am sharing:
I really miss sushi...really.
