life in this republic
friends in high places

This is me and the mayor of our village shooting the breeze on the last day of school. Tomáš Jirsa is also a senator in the Czech Parliament. But more importantly, he is our neighbor and friend. He was one of the first people to welcome us to the neighborhood, even putting together an impromptu party to help us become acquainted with other people on our street. Whenever we have needed help with something he has been there for us. We have been in his home and he in ours. Both Danny and I teach his wife English and our cat, Scriffers, was all too willing to oblige their desire for their cat to have kittens. We then gathered in their home, all of us decked out in pyjamas and nestled on their stairs, watching kittens being born. He is a nice guy, very generous and friendly. We are thankful to call him friend.
